X43 - The oldest Pitcairn postcard?

30 August 2006

This postcard (catalogued as X43 in the previous Pitcairn Postcard Catalogue) is the oldest Pitcairn card that I know of. It is not in my collection and I know of only one copy (in the UK).

The girl standing next to John Adams' headstone is Ruth Constance Petch, born Pitcairn 11th July 1878, only child of Walter Henry Petch and Elizabeth Maude Petch (nee Young). Thanks to Ron Edwards for the information.

  2. Re postcard of Ruth Constance Petch, known as Connie, was born on Rarotonga on 11 July 1898 and died on 28 November 1984 at Normanton Queensland Australia. She was the daughter of Walter Henry Petch and Elizabeth Maud Petch (nee Young). Elizabeth Young left Pitcairn and sailed with the Seven Day Adventist to Rarotonga to train as a nurse. Connie went to live on Pitcairn with her parents when she was about 4 years of age. Roslyn (granddaughter)
